Al-Attiyah explains why Volkswagen WRC deal fell through
Nasser Al-Attiyah has revealed that he originally was in line to compete for Volkswagen in the 2016 World Rally Championship, before the deal ultimately fell through. The Qatari driver said he wanted to race in the final six rallies of the current season, starting with Rally Germany in August until the finale - Rally Australia - in November. But, according to Al-Attiyah, the German manufacturer wanted a full-season schedule, which the 45-years-old couldn't commit to. "My objective was to participate with them [Volkswagen] for the final six rounds of the championship," he told Motorsport.com.
