Paddon leads Rally of Italy after first specials

Hayden Paddon of New Zealand, in a Hyundai, opened up a 23-second lead in the Rally of Italy after Friday morning's four special stages. After five specials in all, Paddon leads Jari-Matti Latvala of Finland, in a Volkswagen Polo, with double world champion Sebastien Ogier of France, in another Volkswagen, a further 2.1sec back. Paddon won the day's first three specials, but Ogier signalled his intentions by taking the fourth, before the stopover in Alghero.
