Volkswagen appoints Smeets to replace McLaren-bound Capito
Volkswagen has appointed former WRC co-driver Sven Smeets as its new motorsport director, replacing McLaren-bound Jost Capito. Rally Germany was Capito's last event with the German manufacturer, and he attended the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend - although he is yet to start working with McLaren, where he will be its new CEO. Volkswagen has now announced a restructuring of its management, with Smeets joining as its motorsport chief. Smeets will be responsible for all of the manufacturer's motorsport activities and will start working on September 1.
