FIA explains call to prevent disabled driver starting

The FIA has explained why disabled competitor Fabrice Giorgi was not allowed to take the start of last weekend's Tour of Corsica round of the World Rally Championship. Giorgi's modified Skoda Fabia R5 did not comply with the governing body's technical regulations and was only seen by the FIA on the day of scrutineering for the Bastia-based event, where it was questioned by officials. The FIA's concerns centred on the legality of a wheel-mounted throttle and brake system produced in Italy that the 33-year-old driver from Corsica, who was paralysed in a motorbike crash 10 years ago, had planned to compete with.
